The Best Socks for White Sneakers, Date Night Dressing, and the Most Honest I've Ever Been About the Dark Side of This Business

Q: “What kind of socks do you wear with your white sneakers? I’ve been into ankle or crew socks but I feel like they stick out with the slightly cropped jeans. Maybe that’s the point?”
Your instinct is right. With a slightly cropped bottom and a white sneaker, you want the line of the leg to keep going. A crew sock chops it up. An ankle sock peeks out and somehow looks worse than either option.
I wear no-show socks. Almost exclusively. I tried the crew sock thing and I just couldn’t do it. I know the styled-sock-with-sneaker look is having a moment, and I think it’s cute on others, but on me I feel kind of, I don’t know, dorky in it? Like I’m trying to be cool but am very obviously not.
The trick is buying good ones. The cheap no-shows slide down inside the shoe within about forty steps and you spend the day reaching into your sneaker like a lunatic. I like the Bombas no-shows, they actually stay put, and for a more affordable option Target’s All in Motion no-shows are surprisingly good.
