Ten List: June 2024
DVF, Budgeting, A Movie for the Whole Family, Zero-Proof Rosé and More.
1. Welcome back to The Ten List!
We're moving this to a once-a-month newsletter-style piece that corrals all the articles, media, recipes, and finds I've enjoyed over the last few weeks. It will be free to all of our subscribers.
This makes room for more content we're rolling out over the summer. So far, we launched our exclusive monthly Capsule Wardrobe, our Pinterest in Real Life feature, from the Mailbag (answering readers' style questions) and continue to share conversations and in-depth musings.
We have even more to share in the coming weeks, AND as we move toward the end of the year, all of our Gift Guides will live here, too!
Happy Reading!
2. ICON: The New Yorker recently published an interview with Diane von Furstenberg, as her new documentary, “Diane von Furstenberg: Woman in Charge,” premieres on Hulu.
She’s one of my favorites. It’s like she’s fit 100 lifetimes into one.
One of the questions in the interview is: “Do you think about the course your life would have taken if you hadn’t had that baby, hadn’t married the prince, hadn’t become Princess Diane von Furstenberg?” Can you imagine?
3. GRIT: This is how I feel when I watch my girls and their teammates play.
4. BUY: This viral Amazon snack box has been all over my social feeds, so I finally caved and bought it. I’m happy to confirm that it is awesome. I fill it with sweet and savory snacks for the kids before going to the pool. It’s a fun treat for the kids and saves me money since the snack house charges a small fortune for a bag of Swedish fish. ;)
5. GIFT: I ordered this “So Long London Tee” for my 14-year-old Swiftie to wear to a 4th of July Party next week. IYKYK. ;)
6. BUDGET: This article in WSJ maps out a few ways I never heard of to track and budget for your family. I don’t think I have the bandwidth to regularly follow the “Zero-Based-Budget,” where you track every single dollar in and out BUT I did do it in January as a kind of audit and was mortified to see what we were wasting on apps and subscriptions. It was so worth the effort.
7. SIP: I'm not a big drinker. But these days, I feel like garbage in the morning if I have even a glass and a half of wine at night. It's just a bummer because it's summer, and I do enjoy the ritual of a crisp wine outside on the weekends. And sadly, Diet Coke doesn't hit the same. I started looking for a nonalcoholic substitute that would let me keep my wine glass and taste crisp and fresh. I recently discovered the Noughty Dealcoholized Rosé, which is available on Zero Proof and it is lovely. I keep it ice cold and get that same refreshing brightness with no booze.
8. WATCH: We took the kids to see Inside Out 2 on Saturday, and everyone LOVED it. Our oldest is 17, our middle is 14, and our youngest is 5, and they all talked about it for the rest of the weekend.
As the movie progressed, I found myself getting lost in the story, forgetting that these were animated characters. It’s a must-watch.
9. MAKE: Parmesan Crusted Chicken
An Ina classic, it’s light, savory and so satisfying, and you can make it in under 30 minutes, perfect after a long day of work.
10. Quote:
“Above all, be the heroine of your life, not the victim.”
- Nora Ephron
I'm adding that Diane von Furstenberg documentary to my watchlist! I don't know much about her other than the iconic wrap dress, so it will be fun to watch and learn more.
