I'm sending you so many hugs as you go through this stage of high school ending and college beginning! The night before we moved our oldest into his dorm for his freshman year, I woke up at 2 am and just quietly cried for TWO HOURS, feeing all the same feelings of "how did we get here so quickly/I can't believe this stage is ending" that you are feeling right now. It is so different when they go to college - bittersweet even as it's fun to watch them step into the next stage of their life. I know you and your family will miss her so much...and she'll miss you also!
On a separate note, I am also becoming a fan of audiobooks. I just drove to Chattanooga for a long weekend, and listened to audiobooks the entire way there and back! The narrator makes a HUGE difference, so when you find one you enjoy, you can search for other titles that person has narrated. I'm currently enjoying The Paris Novel by Ruth Reichl, narrated by Kiiri Sandy.
Deanna, thank you so much for this—I’m tearing up just reading it. I keep swinging between gratitude and grief. I know it’s part of the deal, but wow, it’s a lot. I keep joking that by the time we get to the actual graduation ceremony, I’m going to be completely dehydrated. 😂
Truly—thank you. Your words mean so much.
And yes to audiobooks! I’m with you—once you find a great narrator, it’s a game-changer. I’ll add The Paris Novel to my list (and look up Kiiri Sandy!). Thanks for the thoughtful recommendation—and for always showing up with such generosity. 💛
Just keep hugging your girl and treasure every moment of this summer...and know that she will text and call you just as much from college as she does now! And you'll get to cheer her on as you hear all about her exciting life on campus :)
Oh, and another audiobook I thoroughly enjoyed was Thank You for Listening, by Julia Whelan, narrated by her as well. She has narrated many audiobooks but this was her debut novel. A really great story with lots of insight into what makes a narrator a great one!
